Maybelline's Clear Smooth All-In-One Shine Free Foundation

It's been a while that I've been on a hunt for a no frills easy to use, light to medium coverage powder foundation that wouldn't break my piggy bank....not that i have one. So I've been scouting around for a few products when i came across Maybelline's Clear Smooth All-In-One Shine Free Foundation in Watson's Maybelline section. It has limited shades in my opinion but since i am no expert on make-up or foundations, the range is enough to cover most skin colors. I chose to buy the re-fill in color honey which is less than Ph200 for the 9 gram/ 0.32 oz package in a whitish pinkish iridescent color.

i got this advertising collateral/ ad from surfing the net, i think this is not the packaging that's available in the Philippines, this is from another Asian country but the product is the same

It is a bit yellowish and about a shade and a half to two tones lighter than my skin tone but since i am acidic i chose this color to even out my skin tone which has the tendency to be patchy and uneven. The first time i put it on, i think it altered my undertone a bit and made me a bit more yellowish than normal. But I like it because it provides enough coverage for everyday use. I use it together with the Maybelline Gel Foundation. I like how it blends well together. You just have to get the hang of it to avoid looking like you have been dredged with powder. The texture is a bit dry and powdery. It's good that it doesn't have any over-powering scent. It smells just how an unscented powder would smell like and that is good for me because i cannot stand to put anything with scent near my nose.

this is what i bought in HONEY shade

It provides light and medium coverage and has SPF25 for additional sun protection. I have been using this for a couple of months now and i noticed that towards the middle of the day, especially when i go out of the air-conditioned area of our office and i sweat, i get oily spots on my t-zone. It's okay for me though because i still want my skin to breathe and not be covered up by lots of stuff that would clog pores. Given the price, i think it is worth your money for a good quality and inexpensive powder/ foundation for day time.

Hail to a new world leader.....Pope Francis

It started out as it always does everyday. I wake up and reach over to my phone to check emails, then instagram, play a round of candy crush, then Facebook and read through the stream of posts and messages that happened all over while i was sleeping. Then one post catches my eye and I am wide awake. A new Pope has been elected. It is a good day for Catholics the world over.

image of Pope Francis from forbes.com

Bishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Buenos Aires has been hailed as the new Pope succeeding Pope Benedict XVI born Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger. He is the first to take on the name of Francis in all of the Papal history. In many ways he is bridging a lot of gaps within and outside of the Catholic Church. He is the first Latin American pope and the first Jesuit. He is said to be a conservative and yet has done many things that has been viewed as liberal.

video from YouTube

Personally I am very happy that we have a Pope again. I am wishing the Pope good years ahead. He will surely be faced with a lot of trials and for that I wish him good health for many years to come. He has a humble kind aura about him. I hope he has enough strength and wisdom to be a symbol that would unite not only Catholics but people of different religions and beliefs.

VIVA IL PAPA!!! Mabuhay!

BDJ BOX...Heart Heart Heart for the month of Feb!!

It was a gloomy day with dark clouds looming about when the guard downstairs from my office called to say I got a package. I didn't exactly realize it was the BDJ Box i was waiting for until she handed me the box and i was secretly doing double jumps inside my head. It was lunch time so i bought the box with me at the canteen and opened it up and posted a photo on instagram while i was eating because i just couldn't wait to open it any longer.

So opened it up i did!! Here is what i got for my first ever BDJ Box for the month of February!!
It's a Shiseido loot bag complete with silver ribbons and all that and i cannot wait to try them all out. Shiseido is a really good Japanese brand. I may have tried their shaving cream (back in high school) that a Japanese friend of my father gave him for some weird reason. I'm sure they had their story about that but as for me, that's about all the close encounter I have ever had of the brand. I see them in the more expensive department stores here and there but have never really been curious enough. Mostly, high end super expensive creams really intimidate the sh*t out of me so there. That's my story.

Of course when I got these from the box i cannot wait to get my hands on them. So here's what I got from my package. Does everyone get the same things in the boxes? I don't know really.

1. Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum
Advanced Shiseido Multi-Action Brightening System+ targets all types of hyper-pigmentation and their causes. Dark spots, Age spots, acne scars and uneven skin tone. Best used with Shiseido white lucent intensive brightening mask.
It says it would diminish dark spots in 10 days. The one included in the package was a tiny tiny tube about thinner than my thumb but it must be really potent. I tried it on my dark spot in my left temple....not really sure if it helped. Might have to use it a bit longer. I just get confused how i apply it because since the spot is really small the surrounding area also gets to have the serum applied to it so i'm not sure if i'm doing it properly. I also put it under my eye and i think it really helps brighten up the area. SRP: Php5,650.00 for a 30ml bottle. Will have to think if i would buy the full bottle or not.

2. Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Brightening Mask
This contoured facial mask slips on luxuriously to bring concentrated brightening and hydrating benefits to skin in 10 minutes tops. Reduces the appearance of dark spots for a flawless even complexion. Best used with Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum.
The box contains one mask. It is very refreshing and cool on the skin. It hydrates very well. I noticed that I have improved skin quality after I used it. Skin looks more supple. Might be because there are a lot of moisturizing properties that thankfully didn't give me rashes. SRP: Php3,200.00 for 6 sheets, about Php540 a pop....not very keen on buying it for myself.

3. Shiseido Benefiance Wrinkle Resist24 Night Emulsion
Japanese women are known for taking extra of their skin. Visibly reduces wrinkles and promote silky smooth skin with breakthrough mukurossi extract which inhibits wrinkle triggering enzymes.
It comes in a nicely shaped matte bottle with shiny gold cap, sample size is a 15ml bottle  I really liked how this felt on my skin. The fragrance is very subtle. I normally don't like strong scent on any cream that I would put on my face because i tend to develop a headache if it has a really strong scent but this has that nice clean smell that's non-obtrusive. I liked how it felt on my skin. I think it has improved my skin considering i have only been using it for a couple of days. This is one of the two products in the box that I would think of buying. It's a bit expensive though at SRP: Php3,250.00 for a 75ml bottle but i do have the discount card. (oh.....shux...it only applies to purchases of over 5 grand. crap.)

4. Shiseido Benefiance Extra Creamy Cleansing Foam
Formulated with Yuzu Seed extract which balances skin moisture. A little goes a long way for a luxurious lather that doesn't strip skin of its natural moisture.
This is my most favorite among all the items in the box. I got the 30ml tube sample size. It cleanse up my face really well. I don't put on a lot of make-up. It's basically just, tinted moisturizer and powder + cheek and lip color + mascara and/or liquid liner. For all those who uses black goo on their eyes would know that it is hard to remove black thing once you have it on there. Especially the waterproof ones. So after i use my eye-make up remover all over my face and tissue it off, yes i said all over my face. (ha! ha!!) I use the cleansing foam for my face and neck. I like how it smells very mild and dainty like it's for a pretty pretty lady (ha!!ha! ;) It is colored in a very light white tinged with pastel pinky peach and has little beads on it that dissolves as you lather up. You only need a small amount of the product for your entire face and neck. I like how that it cleans my face very well without that feeling of botox-like tightness after i dry my skin. Very good moisturizing properties. Smells great. No downside to this product as far as i can tell. SRP is at Php2,600 for 125ml tube, still kinda steep if you're on a budget but i think it is definitely worth it.

5. Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick
Red illuminating Pearl is the secret to truly brilliant color that blooms on your lips. Hyaluronic acid holds moisture while Super Hydro-Wrap Vitalizing DE locks it in. Improves lips' condition with regular use.
I got a sample size RD142 Shiseido Perfect Rouge in Rouge Parfait. It's an orangey color that looks perfectly fine on the tube but for some reason doesn't really suit me very well when i put them on. I like orange hued lipstick but i guess this one doesn't really suit my skin tone. It feels good on the lips though. Kind of like you have nothing on but it's there. SRP for the full size is Php1,250.00 a piece.

6. Nippon 5 Minute Touch-Up Kit
Contains lip brushes, lip gloss applicators, eyeliner brushes, mascara wand, wedge sponges. I already used one mascara wand to remove my mascara and it worked pretty well. By the way, i learned how to remove stubborn waterproof mascara in YouTube, here's the link toequus418 where i got the tip. :)

Here's me after my first trial of the products inside the BDJ February Box. I used items 1, 3 and 4 here. I didn't retouch my image so i have left my right eye a bit red in the corner and lotsa uneven eyebags. But yeah i am really liking the stuff.

There are bonus gift cards in the box that I probably would use. If anyone wants it i can give it away for free just let me know and i'll hand them over no strings attached I promise!!! :)

Btw, here's a link to Shiseido's Facebook page if you wanna learn more about their products. And here's the website of BDJ Box and their facebook page.

I am looking forward to more happy moments of un-boxing. Remember to light up! Cheers cheers!!!!!

Travellera.......America

When you're young and more carefree you don't really think much of the future. You actually think you are invincible. And you think too that whatever you want can happen. And happen immediately it will not. I never really took to taking pictures during my travels because I had these crazy notions that I want to savor the moment more than I wanted to take a picture of wherever I was at the moment. I was a snob who didn't really think before I jumped.

You know the saying "Never say never"? Well....me and my friends used to say "No regrets!!" with such gusto only kids with no real heartaches can ever really say it the way we used to say it. Now that I HAVE grown wiser, yes i would like to stress that I have (haha!!) I would like to mildly amend my snobbish ways. From now on (until such time i say so) I will remember that the moments i would like to savor and remember for all times are best captured not in my memory (who sometimes fail to work despite all those hours with lumosity), it will be nice to capture moments with light caught on film of visible representations of moments in my life that have passed through time.

So i have found a few pictures that was taken from my trip to the US a few years back. I still fondly remember moments in my head. But I would have gotten a lot more laughs if I took a few more.

This is outside of San Francisco City Hall if i'm not mistaken.

I miss those purple glasses.

At the Golden Gate bridge, I had one of our colleagues whose name was Jacques who toured me around the bay area, yes we do have a picture together but I would really sound like a complete snobbish racist with only him and me if i will describe how i looked like in that picture next to him. Jacques was French/American with blond hair and light colored eyes. If you get my drift.

At The Union Square right in front of the Levi's store that had all those jeans so obviously from China.

I really miss my purple lenses. Want them back. I had my hair straightened here by the way.

Inside our Hotel in LA, while waiting for a taxi to go to the next appointment. I remember a Taco Bell in front and a drugstore a few blocks away.

Boss miss. We just ate too much cheesacake factory.

I hope I can find my picture in front of the Betsey Johnson boutique in Beverly Hills....I remember we saw Ashanti at an Antique Denim boutique also in Beverly Hills....we got stranded inside a plane on a connecting flight out of Ohio....I didn't make it to broadway because the consul flagged me down as a person with a restricted VISA and should therefore comply to whatever annotations are in there.....i will never forget all the cheescakes......i remember 5th avenue with all the shop windows closed because we only went after closing time because that was the only free time we had...i remember hopping because of the freezing cold in my white boots in the middle of broadway though....also remember $1 pizza in New York....i remember the starbucks downstairs from the GAP office where we bought coffee before a meeting...i remember rashes all over my midriff because of too much cold...it was winter time....all the nine west and tommies and anne kleins that are unbelievably marked down but sold here for almost the list price and people are still buying them....i remember the Johnny Rockets along the bay area that also has the small juke box where you can play music with a coin.....i remember the mall in Ohio where we would go to everyday while we were stuck there for a few days....also remember there were madeleines at the reception in a vendo which were french that i bought as pasalubong anyways......i remember thinking how lucky i was that i was able to experience all these things.

I'm glad i have remembered quite a lot after all these years. Though i might have to go back for a refresher. Happy trip down my memory lane. Cheers cheers!!!!!

Sausage & Feta Penne

I always like UNO's pasta when i am craving good food. For those UNO enthusiasts, they would know that the restaurant changes menu every quarter and never repeats an item. So you will be sure that there will always be something new to try courtesy of the restaurant's Chef. If I want really good pasta, then UNO will never fail to appease my appetite. My last 2 visits, i ordered only one item which is an Olive Oil based pasta with spinach, shrimps and feta cheese. I really loved and and thought i can make my own version of it.

Here is my own recipe, UNO inspired. You can make your own variation based on your preference.

INGREDIENTS:
Penne Pasta - about 2 cups uncooked
Cervelat Sausage - 2 pcs, halved and sliced crosswise
Spinach - about 2 bunches, just get from the grocery - got mine in Rustan's for about less than Ph20 per pack
Feta Cheese - about 100 to 130 grams, just slice them up about 1/4" thickness by 1" x 2" slices
Olive Oil - enough for sauteing and to drizzle over the pasta
Rock Salt - plain
Mc Cormick Garlic Salt - to taste
Mc Cormick Lemmon Pepper - to taste
Lemon - juice and rind sliced in small slivers (optional)

DIRECTIONS:
1. Bring enough water to boil, then cook pasta as per package directions. Add salt to taste. I normally don't put oil because I don't find that they stick to whatever (and if they do, they will separate once you put sauce anyways), but you can if you prefer. It's normally between 11 to 12 minutes for al dente pasta.
2. Saute sausages in olive oil until they are slightly browned to your liking. About 8-10 minutes. Add a bit of garlic salt. I like layering spices (e.g.: salt, pepper, etc.) to my dishes, i just think it tastes better that way. ;)
3. Add the spinach and cook until slightly limp. Take note that they cook very quickly so you might need to turn down the heat a little bit.
4. Add the cooked pasta then drizzle more olive oil, garlic salt and the lemon pepper. Make sure to taste it so it doesn't turn out to be too salty.
5. Add the feta cheese last and some lemon juice and rind. Not too much or it will be too sour. Remove from heat and serve.

NOTE: Always taste whatever you are cooking to make sure that it is to your liking. You can always add or omit or replace some ingredients to suit your taste. Remember that the joy of cooking as with everything else is in exploring what you like best. Happy eating!! Cheers!
